关于The Lemons

A-Sound
如果把Lemons比作 The Rolling Stones, A-Sound就是The Beatles。

Temuulen
Monkbold
Batpurev
Altangerel
Purevsuk

*The Horde is Ho-Tom the Conqueror & Co. Accompanying him to Mongolia is Fierce Franco. The Mao Livehouse performance of The Horde will be as a four-piece, including Ho-Tom and Franco.

This will be a special tour, as it will be the first time to China for A-Sound, and the first performances for rock music fans in China (they previously did a one-off gig in Beijing at a Mongolian culture event). In April, Trash A Go-Go brought Mongolian rock band Mohanik to Shanghai for a pair of shows that got a great reaction. We think this will continue the trend, and at Mao Livehouse it will be much bigger!

The Lemons

The Lemons formed in Ulaanbaatar and played shows for a few years before releasing their debut album in 2006, Red Album. It was the first rock album released by a Mongolian band to achieve national commercial success without heavily compromising its rock sound. Many critics have described it as sounding similar to early work of The Strokes. It featured a few hits, perhaps most prominently Hairtai and Dzuud Noirondoo (transcribed from the Mongolian Cyrillic alphabet). The band was able to devote its energies full time to music and began playing multiple shows a week at Ulanbaatar music venues, which they continue to do to this day.
Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Odno established himself as a national style icon, with his sunglasses and hat becoming a signature for him and the band itself.
The band secured a devout following their impassioned set at the 2006 Playtime Festival (Mongolia's first and biggest rock fest). Their annual performances at Playtime since then have consistently been lauded.
In 2009, The Lemons released their second album, (roughly Dzathoo Lenenee Oiroltso Ze Davkart) It significantly expanded the band's sound to include influences from post rock to punk rock. Due to its more challenging sound, the album didn't become as ubiquitous
as their first effort, though in the three years since their first album the core Mongolian rock audience had expanded significantly (at least somewhat due to The Lemons themselves) and almost universally declared it a triumph.
For this album, the band made a few extremely well produced music videos which can be seen on YouTube:

The Lemons have begun work on their third album.

A-Sound

A-Sound are one of the most popular rock bands in Mongolia. They have a pop-rock sound similar to Keane and Coldplay. As opposed to the “bad boy” Lemons, A-Sound are a lot more focused on classic love songs and appeal to a more pop music friendly audience. If The Lemons are The Rolling Stones, A-Sound are The Beatles.
The band formed in August 2006 as a five-piece:
lead vocal: Temuulen
rhythm guitar: Monkbold
drums: Batpurev
lead guitar: Altangerel
keyboard: Purevsuk
A-Sound put out their debut album in July 2008: Release. It was the first Mongolian rock album to feature some songs in English. The album featured many popular songs, including: “Uyanga,” “Shine On,” and “Forever.” “Uyanga” is a popular girl's name and is a pleasant song sung in Mongolian. “Shine On” and “Forever” are two slices of immaculate pop song-craft, and to music critic (among other things) Brian Offenther, should have been international pop smashes. In “Forever,” lead singer Temuulen's crystal clear voice really sours. In early 2009, a deluxe version of Release was put out and featured two bonus live cuts. Later in 2009, A-Sound began recording an follow up album, but after becoming unsatisfied with the results, scraped it. In April of this year, the band began anew to record a follow up.
The band performs multiple times a week at clubs in Ulaanbaatar, as well as at popular theater and festival shows.
Fun fact: For a few months in 2009, A-Sound and DJ B.O (aka Brian Offenther, aka “me”) had a weekly night called Rock-It Thursdays at River Sound nightclub in Ulaanbaatar.
